Aldi Expressi Machine & capsules/pods. O. P. For all you coffee lovers and or pod lovers (nespresso etc). Aldi is releasing their Expressi machines on Saturday for $7. They will also have 9 different capsule/pod flavours (atleast to start with) and 1. Overall that is a massive saving on both the machine and the consumables in comparison to other brands eg nespresso. They will also have a standalone milk frother available on the day for $1.
And before anyone starts spouting it would be shit etc please note these units are rebadged K- fee units and the capsules are K- fee too. If these take Nespresso pods, or even vice versa, then the war begins. Has the Nestle patent on their pod design lapsed yet? O. P. upriver writes..
If these take Nespresso pods, or even vice versa, then the war begins. Has the Nestle patent on their pod design lapsed yet? Right now its a bit of unknown, it may or may not do the nespresso pods too. Well, Nestle has a few patents but on the whole their exclusivity starts running out 2. Answered: evangelion writes.. Aldi is releasing their Expressi machines on Saturday for $7. Be sure to visit the local AU site.
Might be a good excuse for a secondary machine at work haha. I'll be buying one on the weekend so I'll report back and let everyone know what it's like. So will they only be $7. And before anyone starts spouting it would be shit etc please note these units are rebadged K- fee units and the capsules are K- fee too. Too late ! The Nespresso thread is already labelling them 'ok for poor people'. I am glad there is some decent competition. Nespresso is seriously over priced.
Without even having something else to compare too they are overpriced. I feel like Nespresso is the Apple of coffee machines.
My parents are getting on of these on Saturday. I will buy a 3 or 4 packets of coffee for them (meaning me) to try. If they are good i will get one myself. I was about to buy a sunbeam 6. Herman Miller Aeron, so this product would work in nicely.
To be honest, Nespresso is for the poor fools who don't know how to make real coffee. It's the next OSX : p.
From all the people who have a Nespresso, I've heard nothing but trouble coming from their machines, from the base range to the top latissima : s. Also, Aldi has a 6. You don't like it, return it. Simple. upriver writes.. If these take Nespresso pods, or even vice versa, then the war begins. Has the Nestle patent on their pod design lapsed yet? They dont. Aside from stating they take K- Fee pods if they took Nespresso that would be a big slap to Nestle and would be better advertising.
Units would walk out the door even faster than they will. Just bought a nespresso machine a month ago for $3. The pods are so much cheaper. Fyi, nespresso make very little profit on the actual machine – bear in mind the vast majority are still Swiss made not chinese like aldi, a moda mio and map. More importantly, nestle wouldnt mind too much if people were still buying their pods.
The pods are where they make their millions. Ka- ching!!! More importantly, nestle wouldnt mind too much if people were still buying their pods. The pods are where they make their millions.
Ka- ching!!! It's a very clever way to make money out of a basic commodity. I think the coffee out of Nespresso machines is cruddy, cold and too small and I don't like all the packaging that ends up in land fill because people are so lazy they can't figure out how to put some coffee grounds into a machine and clean it up. I don't like all the packaging that ends up in land fill because people are so lazy. Agreed, the Pod should sell a refillable capsules so this can be reuse without landfill.
I would rather do manually on machine than doing the Pods. O. P. kevvy. 20. 03 writes.. Agreed, the Pod should sell a refillable capsules so this can be reuse without landfill. I would rather do manually on machine than doing the Pods. But to refit them yourself would make it redundant as you may as well just get a full auto or semi. There is actually a refitting unit u can buy and do ur own pods. O. P. ultimately, looks like everyone will just have to wait until Saturday (unless someone manages to get their hands on a unit quicker or have an actual K- fee unit) to find out: 1.
How good is the coffee? How does the coffee compare to nespresso in terms of crema, texture and taste? Where are the machines actually made? Though redundant(cost inhibitive) could it possibly do a nespresso capsule? What were your overall opinions?
Now the question is; When are you getting one? What time and by when could you report back? Jaywalker writes..
From all the people who have a Nespresso, I've heard nothing but trouble coming from their machines, from the base range to the top latissima : s. Had ours for 2 years no trouble and have not heard of any going back for repairs, no doubt some do but not many a very good machine indeed, but you always get knockers no matter what you have so suck it up the knockers and who says your Sunbeam 6. Cheers. Dave. Chris writes..
The pods are where they make their millions. Ka- ching!!! And terrible, old (often years old) coffee at that. Their marketing team must be incredibly good because they've not only convinced millions to pay exorbitant amounts for ridiculously low end beans but at the same time largely avoided the public shaming they deserve for the terrible effect their 'pods' have on the environment.
Where are the machines actually made? Germany. They're re- badged K- Fee machines. Vibi writes.. And terrible, old (often years old) coffee at that. Their special editions have an expiry ~6 months after they started being sold. They are also sealed, so oxidization is basically stopped, so its not nearly as bad as beans in a bag.
They are aluminium, and you can drop them off at any store for recycling, aluminium is sort out to recycle as its cheaper then making new. But dont let facts have any input. It will be interesting to see how these machines go, if they are better then instant I think they will do well regardless of manual/nespresso systems as they are cheap. Consistency is where they will be killed, if they are inconsistent with their coffee quality they will go nowhere. O. P. Vibi writes.. They're re- badged K- Fee machines.

The actual beans they use have, in the past, been shown to sometimes be years old. Regardless of age, they use the cheapest, nastiest beans possible and charge a premium for them. They are aluminium, and you can drop them off at any store for recycling, aluminium is sort out to recycle as its cheaper then making new. How many people do you think actually go to the trouble of cleaning out a used pod before then recycling it?
They've sold over 2. Even at those overly generous figures Nespresso pods account for a huge amount of landfill. It will be interesting to see how these machines go, if they are better then instant I think they will do well regardless of manual/nespresso systems as they are cheap. If the machines are robust and Aldi are truly committed to the concept i'm sure they'll be a huge success, regardless of coffee quality. Consistency is where they will be killed, if they are inconsistent with their coffee quality they will go nowhere.
I don't think consistency will be an issue given the company behind it all. For me their issue will be one of commitment because no pod system will work, regardless of cost, unless the retailer makes a long term commitment to it and to the continual flow of pods, both existing and gimmicky 'special editions'. OMG, so are there people out there collecting pods in bags and taking them back to a special store to recycle and buy more pods?
Doesn't seem very convenient to me.
